The players of the Greek national football team are leaving it and this raised questions to its coach Fernando Santos. The Portuguese expressed his regret to the Greek media for the decision of some stars to give up the blue-white T-shirt and stated that he is mostly disappointed with the attitude. "I do not know why they left because they didn’t tell me anything. They didn’t speak to me, so I can not explain what happened. If someone has to explain, these are the players. Two of them had the opportunity to talk to me but they didn’t do it. I am worried that they didn’t talk to me,"- complained Santos to Sportday Newspaper. Although he does not intend to change the field philosophy in general, the coach is still willing to change the system and to choose 4-3-3 instead of 4-4-2: "The moment the players feel more comfortable with the 4-3-3 system, we will fight for it, although I believe 4-4-2 fits better.”

The noise in the media about the fate of the national team is growing increasingly. The wave of leaving players can not but be noticed. If there were suspicions recently that "something is wrong”, it is more than clear now that the national team is fighting a serious problem. The first who left was Amanatidis. His specific remarks that "there are things that are wrong and therefore I no longer wish to play” led to the coming changes. The second that left the blue-whites was Sotiris Kyrgiakos. Then left the Aydraht striker, Fanis Gekas, who claimed that nothing has changed after Rehhagel has withdrawn and he will not change his mind either. Unless this situation gets better.

How did Santos himself respond to this? He is adamant that "if a player believes in the honesty of the coach, he can return. However, if he does not believe in the coach and in the efforts made, he can not return.” His position concerning Katsouranis is clear too: "Ever since I took the team I hadn’t, I haven’t and I will not have any talks on football with Katsouranis. We had such in the past.” As for Nikos Liberopoulos leave he claimed that he made a wrong step but he respects his decision. However, if the player changes his mind, the door will be open. Santos said that it is not excluded to incorporate Traianos Dellas into the national team at some point. Kostas Mendrinos and Panagiotis Lagos are still close to entering the team of the blue-whites.
