Athletes from Greece, Great Britain, Belarus, Bulgaria, Germany, Hungary, Serbia and Turkey participate in this year's World Cup Championship in Equestrianism Athens CSI02 *- W. The championship takes place from May 13th until 16th at the Olympic facilities for horse riding in Markopoulo in Athens, and its promoter for the seventeenth consecutive time is the Greek Horse Riding Federation. This year Greece takes part in the event with 47 competitors. From the Bulgarian team participate the athletes Asparuh Atanasov, Petar Yankov, Svetlin Ivanov, Asen Iliev, Adrian Todorov, Ivelin Valev, Pavlin Mishovski, Michelle Dimitrova, Stanislav Georgiev, Ivan Kisiov, Vladimir Simeonov, Tihomir Djankov, Anton Datsinski and Kalin Nedelchev. Anton Datsinski with horse Count of Monte Cristo took second place in the national championship in horse riding, which was held in March in the town of Vratsa and Kalin Nedelchev with horse River Dance qualified on the third place.
The championship Athens CSI02 *- W starts with a Young Horses race. It is for qualification and in its program provides for a signle jump. The height of the horse up to the age of 6 years old may not exceed 1,20 m. For horses up to 7 years old it may be at the maximum 1.25 m The speed, which the horses reach is 350m./min. In the Young Horses race each contestant may participate with 3 horses. Following is the race CSIO Big Tour. It is for qualification for the GP and in its program there is also one jump. Here the maximum allowable height of the horse is 1.40 m. and the reached speed is 350m./min. Competitors may participate with a maximum of 2 horses. The last race for the day is CSIO Small Tour. In it the contestants may participate with only one horse, with maximum hight of 1.25 m
The second day of the program begins with running (against the clock), then after lunch will be held the race FEI Nations Cup of Athens. FEI Nations Cup of Athens is a qualification tournament for the WEG in 2010 and the FEI European Championship in 2011. To the nine teams of finalists will be distributed by the award of 20,000 euros.
On May 16th will also be announced the winner of the championship of the Athens Grand Prix-FEI World Cup. In the final round the contestants will participate with only one horse with a hight between 1,30-1.50 m. The award, which the winners will share is the ammount of 20,000 euros.
Besides Athens CSIO2 *- W from May 13th to May 16th the Hellenic Equestrian Federation organizes also an international competition for youngsters CSIJ-A, Grand Prix, which is for qualification for the European championship.
