Transfers of players and preparation for the season 2010-2011 is not the only task which football clubs have to deal with in the summer. Under the conditions of severe economic crisis they must also deal with the uneasy task to keep last year's levels of sales of season tickets for matches. A challenge which in terms of level of difficulty and importance is almost equal to the teams fighting for a good position in the league ... In a difficult economic situation and facing the possibility of losing their fans the clubs decided not to take a risk and... reduced the prices of the season tickets.

Despite some delays in making the decisions on current issues because of new management of the team, Olympiakos is sure of one thing. Prices for season tickets for more expensive sectors will be reduced by 10% to 25%. During the 2009-2010 season for a seat in the premium sector the fans had to pay between 770 to 2200 euros. The price for a VIP spot amounted up to 3,500 euros and the cheapest sectors were ranging from 450 to 550 euros. During the past season the club provided 20,000 cards. This year, however the bar is even higher and there will be available for sale 2000 tickets more.

The Champion of the country Panathinaikos decided to reduce the price of their season tickets by 20%. For the holders of season tickets numerous lotteries and gifts from the club are provided. With this policy the greens aim to achieve levels of sales similar to those from the last year, when 25,000 season tickets were sold.

Atromitos Athens also procedded to major price reductions. Atromitos was also the first club from the Super League, which provided tickets for the new season. Last year it had a 1300 cards, and so far 1100have already been sold. The success in sales is due to price cuts and the understanding which the club shows to its fans. Director of the club Katja Koksenoglou emphasizes before the Greek SportsBiz: "We understand that we live in difficult times and we are trying to show an understanding and empathy." The season tickets worth 600 euros are now available for 500, those of 350 euros have been reduced to 250, and the cheapest ones of 200 euros can be purchased for 150 euros. Atromitos offers also family packages at discount prices.

More elastic than before is also the policy of AEK. Except for the youth season tickets the club also introduces cards for large families and unemployed fans. The prices of some sectors are also reduced. The sale of cards during the past season amounted to 17,500. This year the club has set a goal to reach similar levels despite the difficult economic situation in the country.

Reduction of the more expensive cards provides also PAOK. Last year, the club issued 21,100 season tickets. For this year, however, it provides for 18,000.

Exception to the general trend makes AREP. Management of the club provides for prices similar to those of last year, and even a slight increase of 10 to 30 euro per card. Thus season tickets of 175 euros are already 185, and those of 700 euros are sold for 730.
