This year's international dance festival in Athens runs in the rhythm of the World Cup. ATHENS INTERNATIONAL DANCE FESTIVAL is held for the eighth consecutive  summer and its atmosphere this time is different because of the presence of “A Dance Tribute to the Art of Football”. The performance is by the famous choreographer Jo Stromgren and presents the most popular sport – football, and the ideas of people associated with it. The Norwegian choreographer refutes myths and prejudices about the superiority of a dance group to a group of football players and strongly criticizes the fictional conflict between them. The emphasis is upon the body language, which the dancers use.

The theater and dance group OKTANA offers different type of dance and expression of emotions. The Dressed-Undressed performance of OKTANA expresses disguise and reveal. The human body is sometimes a beautiful subject, and sometimes – a source of ugliness. Fault is the process of transition and aging. Choreographer of the dance is the Greek Konstantinos Rigos, the characters are two men without ... personality. Dressed in the clothes of today's realities they undress on stage and there remain two naked bodies, trying to escape but fail. The hall is empty and the silence is striking.

Ballet Junior de Geneve takes part in the festival this year. Their dance symbolizes the chaos and uncertainty which surround our life. The main motif is the need of unity and resistance to our growing problems. According to choreographer Andonis Foniadakis the need expresses each of us individually and all of us together as a civilization. The power of men is the voice that expresses their emotions. The voice expresses fear, agony and anger, but also the ability of each of us to transcend ourselves when necessary. The group fights conformism and the established order. This is a new performance of Foniadakis with the voices of Meredith Monk, Diamanda Galas and Marina Rosenfeld.

Gelabert Azzopardi Companyia de Dansa from Spain presents the show “Sense Fi/ Conguassabit”. The dance features programmed breaks and continuations, which create a kind of rhythm and dynamics of the scene. At times the dancers dance to the sounds of Handel. Folkwang Tanzstudie participates with “Frauenballett”. Its choreographer is the famous Susanne Linke. Linke is one of the most important personalities of the German modern dance. She created “Frauenballett”, female ballet-play, in 1981. The performance notes a huge success and is presented all around the world. This year it has come to Greece. Dance groups from around the world are beginning to include this kind of ballet in their programs. In 2010 Linke revived her work to present it during the “2nd Biennale Tanzausbildung”. She presents it today to the Greek public in this form.

Henrietta Horn presents the “Schimmer” show. In 1999 she made the choreography of the “Solo” show which to this day is a favorite of both the German and the public worldwide. The dancers showed their art in Europe, Asia and Africa. “Schimmer” is the first performance of the choreographer after “Solo”.

ATHENS INTERNATIONAL DANCE FESTIVAL this year presents the Greek dance troupe Aerites Dance Company. Its performance is entitled “d.opa” (dopamines of post Athenians). Choreographer Patricia Apergi tries to find in the dance the answers of the questions: “How  many Oops should the Greeks tell to get up, how much dopamine should they take to feel proud, how much history should they read to smile, are they interested in the past in order to be able to live the present, and after how many generations the blood becomes water? Apergi asks whether there is a special DNA that responds to dance and if so where and in what form is it?
