Women's favorite pastime - shopping, is the main idea of the new initiative Agora: Greek Summer Shopping Experience, proposed by the Greek federation of traders. The clever idea for promoting the country and encouraging the tourists to visit the islands comes just in time to tickle the interest of those who have not yet decided where the wind will carry them in the summer.

The idea behind the initiative is to combine the vacation with the pleasure of shopping and having fun in a country like Greece which is famous and attractive mainly for its rich cultural heritage and azure beaches. The aim is to promote the qualities of the Greek local products and services, to revive trade, to enter new markets and attract foreign consumers and the market to attract new brands and to improve the productivity of the Greek economy.

The proposal for the initiative Agora Summer Shopping in the tourist areas of the country aims to initiate collaborations between companies that have diverse activities in tourism and trade so that tourists can enjoy their summer vacation. During the summer shopping festival the guests in the resorts will be able to participate in and watch various performances, and of course to see small-scale trade fairs. In this the whole set of cultural and historical attractions will be presented as well as the sights of each region by creating an interesting framework for the functioning of the market.

The Federation of Greek Traders entrusted the members of its board of directors mostly from tourist areas with the task to collect all the ideas of local trade unions and the municipalities in order to choose the most clever, interesting and easy to implement suggestions. In a letter to all relevant ministries and the Central Union of Chambers of Commerce, they asked this initiative to be placed among the direct priorities and the ministries to present their views and indicate whether they are willing to support it.

According to current data this year, the bookings of low cost companies’ air tickets to destinations like Rhodes, Kos, Corfu, Iraklion, Chania, Volos, Zakynthos, Mykonos, Santorini, Thessaloniki and Athens have increased by 15%. This means that 15,000 charter flights will bring 700,000 visitors more in the country. As for the cruise ships in the Aegean Sea, the routes planned for the summer are expected to be more than 1000. This means 20% more than last year and they always stop at the ports in order to allow the passengers to see the island.
