A big surprise offered us the Greek national women basketball team with the loss in Riga. In their last night’s game against France, the Greeks lost with 51-49 in the quarterfinal phase of Eurobasket.
For the most part Kostas Misas’ girls were controlling the game. They managed to take the lead few times but it wasn’t enough. During the last ten minutes of the game, the French were leading with 3 points. Two minutes before the end the Greek women had their chance but Kaletsou missed it with a long shot.
After the game, the coach Kostas Misas said: “Our defense was good but our problem today was the speed. We lost the game, because we did not manage to build good zone defense. We had opportunities but my girls, with the exception of Evina Maltsi, still do not have enough experience with such battles.”
The Greek national team, which is in the European Basketball top eight for the first time in its history, will play against its next opponent today – the team from Slovakia.
