The Greek-Americans are uniting their efforts around the candidature of the Democrat Barack Obama for president of the USA. “Barack Obama has always supported the Greek opinions in the Senate,” said the president of the foundation “Greek-American supporting the Democratic candidate for US president” Alexis Yanoulias. Alexis Yanoulias is a finance minister of Illinois and the financial manager of Obama’s campaign.
“Every time we sought for Barack Obama’s help whether it was about topics like the Ecimenical patriarchy, the name of Macedonia, or the Cyprian problem, he was always on our side. I cannot speak for him but I can assure you that he has always believed in the power of justice,” said Yanoulias. He spoke on a special dinner, dedicated to his own path of life, which was organized by the Greek community in New York and took place in the Olympic Tower in Manhattan. The young politician stressed the the senator of Illinois has always supported the Greek-Americans, who want to enter into politics and that without their support he wouldn’t have won the Democratic nomination.
The president of the Cyprian federation in the US Peter Papanikolaou, the vice-president of the Church board of the Greek Orthodox church in the US Michal Tzaharis and the CEO of the Commission “Greek-Americans supporting Barack Obama” Eddie Zamenidis spoke for Alexis Yanoulias himself and for his contribution for the development of the Greek community in the US.
Among the organizers of the event was also Eleni Tzakopoulou-Kounalaki, who is the president of the commission “Greek-Americans supporting Hillary Clinton,” and now is co-president of the same commission for Barack Obama.
