An interesting fact is that after the attack on the wagon of the electric railway, in March 2009 the person in charge of the security in the subway Dimosthenis Yanisopoulos sent a letter in which he warned about his fears of a bombing attack. He requested the patrols of about 24 employees of the subway, dressed as civilians to be resumed. In the period 2004-2008 they had to monitor for actions such as leaving a suspicious object. There was however no reaction by the management of the subway, and the supervisor, who had sent the letter was fired in June 2009.

In the lawsuit, which he filed against his dismissal, he stated: "I was pressured to hire staff responsible for the security, without observing any formal requirements. They set random criteria and demanded that I meet their interests". In February 2010 the State Administration auditors issued a report, according to which unskilled workers were recruited in the subway, many of whom were assigned security duties.

According to an article in the Greek daily To Vima, the Office of Intelligence and the anti-terrorism agency are monitoring 3000 people daily using very modern equipment. Sophisticated monitoring systems allow for "alert zones" to be created. When a person "enters" in those zones, using his mobile phone, the intelligence and secret services immediately receive a signal. Through the mobile communications, the agencies are able to find the exact location of each of the people they are following.

The author of the article refers to the secret documents of the technical departments, which are responsible for the operation of two major systems for legal recording of telephone conversations in the building of the Police Department of Attica and in the Ministry of Civil Protection.

According to the documents, each of the systems has the potential to monitor and register simultaneously 500 fixed and 200 mobile phones, as well as 100 internet connections. The subjects monitored at the same time are 800 and can reach 1500. Average communication time of each of the people being monitored is about two hours.

The systems can connect to all types of communication networks. The can "set" their "targets", convert information filters and create "black" lists the ones being monitored. They can reveal the location of the holders of the monitored mobile phones and store large volumes of information. Their connection with the maps in the geographical system GEO allows police to be informed immediately when any of the monitored suspects is heading towards his hiding place or towards a place, which is suspected to be subject of a terrorist attack.
