The film Grandma enables American actress Lily Tomlin to aspire for a Golden Globe in the best actress in a comedy or musical category. The Greek stamp on the film comes from its producers Paris Kasidokostas-Latsis and Terry Dougas, owners of 1821 Media.
Director and script writer is Paul Weitz. The film tells the story of Elle Reid (Lily Tomlin). She has just split with her partner when her granddaughter Sage (Julia Garner) unexpectedly pops up to ask for $600, which she must get by sunset. Since Elle is cash-strapped herself, the two spend the day in search of someone ready to help, visit old friends and lovers, digging up a few past secrets en route.
The film also features Marcia Gay Harden, Judy Greer, Laverne Cox and Sam Elliott.
Paris Kasidokostas-Latsis and Terry Dougas have taken over the film's production through their 1821 Media, the company they created back in 2005. Its focus is on high-quality films, television, graphic novels, productions for digital media, etc.
The company has made a dynamic start in the film industry. It has produced films like Swing Vote with Kevin Costner, The Box with Cameron Diaz, The Invention Of Lying with Ricky Gervais and Jennifer Garner, and the Western, Jane Got a Gun, with Natalie Portman, Joel Edgerton and Ewan McGregor, which will have its world premiere on 29 January.
1821 Media has already built relationships with renowned industry representatives such as actress Natalie Portman and the mythical Stan Lee - creator of Spiderman, Fantastic Four, X-Men and Avengers. 1821 Media's publishing department, in collaboration with Stan Lee, released the graphic novel, Romeo and Juliet: the war, which won the New York Times Best Seller title.
This success led to the creation, together with Stan Lee and his Kids Universe, of a new company, mainly targeting children, which has published a string of popular children's books, and is now getting into games and cartoons.

In recent years, 1821 Media has been working with major Hollywood studios in churning out blockbusters like The Odyssey of Warner Brothers, with David Heyman as producer (he produced Harry Potter), and Kyriakides of Disney. The company is also involved in remakes of old movies like Lionsgate. In all these productions, 1821 Media will act as co-producer along with the studios.
In 2015, Dougas and Kasidokostas-Latsis set up the Hercules Film Fund with the intention of financing more high-quality films. The production on Mena, directed by Doug Liman and starring Tom Cruise, has just finished. The film will be distributed by Universal in January 2017.
