Dimitar Gochev – famous director working in Berlin, will entertain the Greek public as an actor and a director. Dimitar himself is very happy that he will make a play, which will be performed in Epidaurus.
Young and very talented Greek actors will take part in Gochev’s play “The Persians,” which will be ready for the summer Epidaurus festival.
“The national Greek theatre is trying to attract the best cadres from Greece and abroad. This is why we invited Dimitar Gochev, who is famous worldwide, so he can direct “The Persians.” Two years ago he directed the Aeschylus’ tragedy in Berlin and his play was awarded as the best one in the German language theatre,” said Dimitris Houvardas, director of the theatre.
This production is expected to be one of the best in this year’s festival in Epidaurus, because Gochev is one of the most important directors in Western Europe. Ever since the beginning he said that the Greek version of “The Persians” will be very different from the German one. “We are not here to repeat what was already done,” said Gochev regarding the plot of the tragedy: “The dead multiply, wars continue.”
“Until there are wars, the play will still be current,” said Gochev. This project is a dream come true for him, because he will direct a play in one of the biggest preserved ancient amphitheatres – Epidaurus. “The Persians” will be performed during the festival, which is organized every year and both plays will be performed on June 31st and August 1st.
Except as a director, the Greek public will be able to see Dimitar Gochev as an actor as well in the play “Hamlet Machine” based on the text by Henry Miller, which will be played only once on “Kotopouli” stage on June 5th.
This production was presented for the first time in 2007 in “Deutches Τheater” in Berlin. Henry Miller started writing this mysterious text in 1977, when at that time he was translating Hamlet.
