The game from the Euro league between the football teams of Panathinaikos and Standard Liege, played at the Liege stadium in Belgium ended with a 1:0 score. The score put the end to the dreams of the greens for a further qualification in the Euro league. They couldn’t score the three goals they needed during the game with the Belgium team even though there were chances to do it… The weak mental condition of the team of Panathinaikos was influenced by its loss in the previous game with Standard played at the OAKA stadium in Athens, when they were defeated by 1:3 goals. The guests were definitely looking for opportunities to score, however when such opportunities were available they couldn’t manage to finish what they had started. Something which we definitely cannot say about the hosts who didn’t give up their strong presence at the stadium even after they scored.

The first half started with attacks by both teams. The greens had 3 very good opportunities for a goal, however none of them was successful. A particularly good chance to score had Katsuranis when in the 43rd minute he sent the ball with a strong kick towards the opponent’s goal post, however the ball hit the bar. Only two minutes later (at the end of the first half) the hosts scored the goal, which marked the evening. In the 45th minute Mbokani skillfully took the ball from his team mate, kept it and then placed it right into the goal post of the greens. At this moment the goalkeeper Tzorvas fell into despair. In this way the first half finished with a 1:0 score in favor of the hosts.

The second half didn’t bring any positive changes for the greens. In the 10th minute they had their first good chance to score, however Salpingidis didn’t manage to take advantage of it. The greatest threat for the guests in the second half of the game continued to be the player Mbokani. Not just once Mbokani reminded of his presence by showing up in front of the goal post of the greens in the most unexpected moments. Luckily none of the attacks of the forward, who comes originally from Congo, ended with another goal.

Ninis also was trying to create good positions to score, however none of them ended successfully. In the middle of the second half the greens grew mentally weaker and their attempts to score, even though they were not just a few, reminded more of desperate attacks, rather than a planned and result oriented game. In the 23rd minute Karagounis made an attempt to score, however the ball turned out to be discouragingly far from the goal post of the hosts. Five minutes later Leto also made an attempt to score a goal, however unfortunately the player sent the ball right into the center of the goal post and in because of this the goal keeper managed to catch it without making too much efforts.

In the 32nd minute an attempt to score a goal with his head made Rukavina, however this attack also ended unsuccessfully. In the next minute Vintra made his attempt to score, however with a little help of the goal keeper once again the ball did not enter the goal post.

Cisse also did not manage to contribute for the changing of the score. This evening he was appearing in front of the goal post of the opponent exceptionally rare. One of the rare attempts he made was in the 40th minute, however the ball hit the defense of the hosts. A surprisingly weak attempt to score he made again in the last minute of the game when he sent the ball very high above the goal post and left many of the fans puzzled…

The dreams of the greens for the next stage of the European league were left behind at the stadium Standard Liege in Belgium.
