The Greek capital woke up this morning covered with a thin white gown - the first snow in the city in two years now. Until yesterday, its residents were walking around in jackets and blazers, and statisticians registered the second warmest November in the history of the country with an average temperature of 21.9 degrees Celsius.
With more than 14 degrees fell the temperatures in just one night. According to the forecasts of the Greek Meteorological Service, in the next few coming days the minimum temperature in Athens will be negative - about 3 degrees below zero, while the maximum temperature will not exceed 6-7 degrees.
The cold wave launched from northern Greece, where it snows in many places. In white are also colored Thessaly, Continental Greece and northeastern Peloponnese. Stormy winds reached 90-10 Beaufort in northern Aegean Sea. Ministry of Merchant Marine banned shipping from the port of Rafina to the Cycads Islands, from Lavrio to the Sporades Islands to and from Piraeus to the Saronic Gulf and Kythira.
Weathermen expect a temporary improvement in the weather on Sunday and a new cold wave on Monday.
