Two things were different about the presentation of the new model iPhone – first, the presentation was not led by Steve Jobs, although it was obvious that his unique style of presentation of the company's products was present. One day after presenting the new iPhone 4S to the world Steve Jobs left us. 

What does the new iPhone 4S give us? The heart of the Smartphone is the processor that powers the current Apple iPad tablet 2, which was presented earlier this year - A5 has two cores providing sufficient computing and graphics power for the device to ensure smooth handling even while using the most demanding games and applications for iPhone 4S. The processor provides 7 times better graphics performance than the previous iPhone generation. 

Apple has improved the phone's networking capabilities and it now has a maximum data transfer of 14.4 Mbps. Everyone expected that the company would include the opportunity to work with the next generation networks, LTE, but this option is absent. Nevertheless, the phone's features in this respect were deemed sufficient for most of the markets on which it will be available. 

The next improvement over the previous model is the camera. In iPhone 4 it was 5 megapixels, while in iPhone 4S the megapixels have increased to 8. Technical improvements make it possible to record video from 720p to 1080p, of high enough quality to be shown also on televisions with the largest screen available on the market today. 

Unlike its predecessor, iPhone 4S will be available with a built-in memory capacity of 64 GB, in addition to the standard 16 GB and 32 GB. Prices in the United States will be 199 US Dollars for versions with 16GB memory, 32GB for 299 US Dollars and for the first time 399 US Dollars for 64GB. 

There are improvements in the antenna - a problem that was widely discussed and linked to one of the shortcomings of the iPhone 4. As already mentioned, iPhone 4S can be considered a world phone, because it can work with GSM and CDMA networks. 

The model provides up to 8 hours of talk time on 3G networks and 12 hours on 2G networks with one battery charge. Users can also surf the Internet for up to 6 hours on 3G and up to 9 hours on Wi-Fi networks, listening to 40 hours of music or watch 10 hours of videos on this Smartphone. All this is achievable, thanks to extended battery life. 

The main feature of the new iPhone 4S is the technology for voice control, which Apple acquired with the purchase of Siri company. The development is deeply integrated into iOS and as rumors suggested, is intelligent enough to understand the meaning of a question asked in a specific context – this is why it relies on artificial intelligence. This can provide different information of the holder of the device, but it can also implement a set of commands - such as checking your calendar, scheduling meetings, reading aloud incoming messages, dictating messages and e-mail, etc. This feature is currently supported in English, French and German. Unfortunately, the new service will be available only to holders of iPhone 4S. 

  
All software innovations in the iPhone 3G come complete in the new mobile operating system - iOS 5 - which has over 200 new features. It was presented in early summer and will bring users much of what they have anticipated. First is the new notification system, which Apple called the Notification Center. Like Android, it is available through a pull-down menu at the top of the screen, it save notes about various events and displays information such as data exchange or the weather. These updates are available also on the display in a locked position by simply sliding a finger on them to open the application. From the locked screen you can now launch the camera directly and take pictures or videos using the hardware button for volume increase, and for improving the available pictures, there is also an image editor with basic functions. 

  
iCloud will allow users to store music, books, photos, contacts, calendars and then sync the content to all their Apple devices. The service is free and provides 5 gigabytes of available free space. 

Next is Newsstand, which is an application for accessing electronic versions of newspapers and magazines. It supports background downloading of new releases. As expected, Twitter is deeply integrated into the platform and is available in various applications such as Camera, Photos, Safari, YouTube and Maps. It is also added to the list of contacts where avatars from Twitter can be downloaded and added to the phonebook. In terms of readability of Web page readability two new features are included - Reader and Reading List. The first automatically formats the text so that it is readable on the phone screen, and the second keeps the pages for reading later. Something similar to the Read it Later and Instapaper applications. iOS 5 will be available on October 12 for iPhone holders (3GS, 4 and 4S), iPad (1 and 2) and iPod touch (generation 3 and 4). 

Finally we come to design of the phone. The appearance of the new iPhone 4S will not differ at all from iPhone 4. Besides the front and rear panel of tempered Gorilla glass, iPhone 4S comes with the familiar Retina display and with an excellent resolution of 960 x 640 pixels. The problem is the size of the display, which is still only 3.5 inches. 

Is the new iPhone 4S an evolution or revolution? In retrospect, the presentation of the iPhone 4S is a perfectly logical step and follows the company's policy of submitting 2 phones with similar characteristics, as was the case with iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS. The disappointment that followed the presentation was caused by the strong emergence of rumours about iPhone 5 with a completely new design and larger screen. Of course, these rumors were neither confirmed nor rejected by Apple, which traditionally does not share anything before the presentation of its products. iPhone 4S bears inherently revolutionary features and is also an evolutionary extension of its predecessors. Naturally all our expectations are high regarding this phone, because it has changed an entire industry and brought many new things to it.
