The pole vault world record holder, the golden girl from Athens to Beijing – Yelena Isinbaeva confirmed her participation yesterday in the finals of IAAF/VTB Bank World Athletics in Thessaloniki. The invitation was given in Berlin by a delegation of the organizational committee of the competition, headed by Panayotis Dimakos. She is the first big name in the world athletics, which is going to participate in the Thessaloniki Grand prix, which will take place in Kaftanzogleo stadium in Thessaloniki between 12th and 13th of September.
Few days ago Yelena Isinbaeva won the women’s pole vault competition in the Golden League in Berlin. The Russian ensured her victory with a jump of 4.83 meters – 5 centimeters higher than Monica Pirek from Poland and the third in the ranking Fabiana Murer from Brazil, who jumped 4.68 meters.
Yelena Isinbaeva does not have any competition in the pole vault for the last four years. She improved her own world record in Beijing by jumping 5.05 meters. “This is a honour for me, this is what I am training for,” said the beautiful Russian. She was born on June 3rd 1982 in Volvograd, Russia. Today, she lives in Donetsk, Ukraine and also in a big apartment in Monaco. In Donetsk, she trains under the supervision of Sergey Bubka.
Ever since July 13th 2003 (4.82m) to August 18th 2008 (5.05m), Yelena Isinbaeva has improved the world record 25 times. Except for Olympic titles, she has 2 golden and one bronze medal from worldwide championships. Today, she is considered to be the greatest athlete in pole vaulting. She is also called the “female version of Sergey Bubka,” because of her dedication and invincibility.
