A one day conference dedicated to the Greek literature and more specifically to the world famous Greek authors Konstantinos Kavafis and Nikos Kazantzakis will be held tomorrow in Bucharest. The event is organized under the aegis of the Greek embassy in the Romanian capital. The occasion is the 145th anniversary of the birth and the 75th anniversary of the death of the Alexandrian bard as well as the 125th anniversary of the birth of Kazantzakis.
During the event there will be a presentation of two new bilingual publications, which were released on the market this year: “Poems” by Kavafis (“Omonia” publishing house) and “Christ crucified again” by Kazantzakis (“Humanistas” publishing house). The presentation of the two publications will be followed by a reading of poems by Kavafis and fragments from the “Reort before El Greko” and “Odyssey” by Kazantzakis as well as from his letters to Panit Istrati by actors in the Bucharest National theatre. During the whole time on special screens will be shown scenes from the life of the two literary men and along with this there will be held a small exhibition of Romanian publications of their works (fifteen by Kazantzakis and eight by Kavafis).
In the conference will take part the ambassador of the Republic of Greece in Romania Georgios Pukamisas, the chairman of the World council for the Greeks abroad Stefanos Tamvakis, the president of SofMedica (a sponsor of the event), Ekaterini Sophianou, the head of the Philological department in the Romanian academy, Eugen Simion, as well as the professor in comparative theory of literature Elizabeta Laskoni.
