The majority of voters do not accept SYRIZA’s messages

The poll shows that 76% of respondents oppose the Memorandum of financial support and, therefore, the government policy. How would you explain this result bearing in mind the fact that the first signs of economic improvement are already at hand and that the European politicians have recognized this?

The government could soon find itself in a situation similar to the story about the boy who cried "Wolf". In some cases it gives rise to high expectations which it finds it difficult to materialize later.

The Memorandum means austerity to the people. From the outset, it was accepted as a "necessary evil". However, regardless of how necessary an "evil" could be, it cannot become popular. I think the discussion "in support and against the Memorandum" is completely wrong because that is not the main criterion of the voters. Accordingly, the statements in support of the government and the positive signs for the development of the economy have not been productive for the government because their results are not yet visible to the public. This will not happen unless the rate of unemployment falls and people’s income improves or stabilizes at least.

We see that the leader of SYRIZA Alexis Tsipras is able to send the messages of SYRIZA to society. What is the mistake of the government regarding its communications policy?

I would not say that SYRIZA is successfully sending its messages. The opposition is also making mistakes, the majority of which are associated with different views within the party. As a result, its position is not entirely clear and, therefore, a significant part of the electorate does not consider these views as realistic. SYRIZA is taking advantage of the citizens’ dissatisfaction rather than attracting their support.

On the other hand, the government could soon find itself in a situation similar to the story about the boy who cried "Wolf". In some cases it gives rise to high expectations which it finds it difficult to materialize later. So, the response to the positive messages is very weak. Another mistake of the government is that, in some cases, it used up valuable political resources for minor issues, thus wasting the opportunity of being supported by a larger number of citizens. Nevertheless, we still have a long way ahead and we will see many more twists.
