Marina Diamandis is the new star of the British pop scene. Her father is Greek and her mother is from Wales, but the reason we are telling you about her is her popularity among the media in the Albion even before she released her first album. The album "Family jewels" will appear in stores in mid-February, and those who have heard some of the tracks comparing her with Kate Bush and Siouxsie Αnd Τhe Βanshees.

Marina Dimanadis took second place in the ΒΒC ranking of most reliable figures for 2010 and as we know, they almost always score in their forecasts! The album Family jewels is signed as Μarina & Τhe Diamonds. But if you think that the idea of diamonds comes from her name, Marina herself says that this refers to her fans, whose number increases more and more.

Marina Diamandi was born in Abergavenny, Wales and as she says in an interview for BBC, she wrote her first song when she was seven years old. "The story was about a butterfly. But it was so bad that I didn’t know how to write other songs until I turned 17.” Marina admits that until she began writing songs she never dealt with music or played any instruments.

Now she composes on the piano. She records by herself and distributes her first album with six songs through ΜySpace and manages to sell 70 copies, tells Vima newspaper. When she was a teenager Marina tried to join in a teen band, but nothing came out of it. Later she dropped out of university and decided she must get serious: "I believed I was not good enough for the “pop" game, perhaps because my voice was not technically perfect. I remember how I used to think back then: "’I'm not stupid. I have something to give but you do not let me do it.’ So I started by relying solely on my own strength."

Fate loves the brave ones and so in January 2008 the talent hunter Derek Davis from Νeon Gold Records discovered her and convinces her to sign with Warner. After seeing her performances in the big festivals in Glastonbury and Reading, the company smelled the birth of a new pop star. Her first album was called "Hollywood" and there she shares her experiences in America, where she used to do her recordings. "The album tells of who I was in Hollywood, how it influenced my way of thinking and how wrong my priorities in life were. Compulsive thoughts about the lives of celebrities are very unhealthy. I do not want to live this way and do not want to be a typical pop star," says the 25-year-old Marina, who believes that her success is certain. Or maybe not? "I will feel as if I am in heaven, if I enter the TOP 10, but success is not part of the plans. Nothing of what I do not is planned ahead. Either way I would have done it."
