The media strike is of political purpose

Third, Greek journalism did not have a vision in the process of transition from paper to new technology. As a result, those working in the new media have no rights, cannot even become members of the journalists’ union because of its inertness and slow reactions related to the modification of its statutes. This means that some of the journalists who join these new media will have no rights. My fear is that because these media in Greece are semi-legal, these people will not be required to have journalistic skills, nor the fundamental obligation of observing ethics. So, in this case, there will not only be loss of jobs but also of the prestige of this profession.

I believe the future of media employees will be scary. And the worst thing is that trade unions and the people who should have thought about it have not drawn up any plan. This means that the press will shrink even more if it is not destroyed completely. And if the journalists’ union continued to benefit from its public power in the same way, Greek journalists would face another great danger: the division of employed and unemployed journalists. If this happens, I think the end will be even more catastrophic and the bad future will come much faster.
