Writers Orhan Pamuk, Ismail Kadare, John Banvil, linguist psychoanalyst Julia Krasteva, European Central Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet, Oxford University Mathematics Professor Marcus du Sautoy and other world famous personalities and intellectuals will be invited this year under the program Μegaron Ρlus in the Palate of Music in Athens.
The program organized in the Palate of Music has been taking place every years for the last five years and it has organized 204 events, in which 188 people from 23 countries have been invited among whom are eight Nobel Prize winners, four winners of the architectural prize Ρritzker, two mathematicians awarded the Fields Μedal and two writers awarded with Βooker. Events are visited by 250 000 viewers, of whom 35 000 students.
The new president of the Board of Megaro Plus announced the 2010 program, which is held with the sponsorship of Alexander Onassis Foundation. All lectures, symposia, discussions and workshops will emphasize on political and economic issues, but also art and philosophy, so that through these meetings we can develop the problems of the hottest topics of our age.
There is a big possibility that during Megara Plus we will be able to meet big politicians, for which Jean-Marie Colombo will take care of, because he has gotten in touch with Romano Prodi - President of the EC, Xavier Bertrand - General Secretary of the French Party UΜΡ and Henry Guaino - Nicolas Sarkozi’s adviser. Also Baroness Catherine Ashton, who is Minister of Foreign Affairs of the EU, has accepted the invitation to speak during the program Μegaron Ρlus.
Program of Megaro Plus is completely covered by the sponsors, said the President of the Organization of the Palate of Music in Athens, Yannis Manos, who added that work is done for other cooperation options and sponsorship with the Μetropolitan Οpera, La Scalla, Center Ρompidou, and with ΜΟΜΑ in New York.
"Megaron Plus is working for the idea that the Greek society should open itself to the new ideas of our age: for green development and climate change, to create a society that cares about protecting the socially disadvantaged groups and minorities, for new architecture which is necessary for international economic and credit system, so we can avoid witnessing again a severe crisis, as we have been experiencing over the past two years," said Culture Minister Pavlos Geroulanos.
