Kalavryta and Aigialeia's Metropolitan Amvrosios relies on ... tourism, since in 2009 he marked the beginning of a giant investment project in the region, with the development of Simantron resort in Eleonas Village in the Achaia region.

Aigialeia's Metropolitan is making the second attempt for the development of the coastal region of Diakofto, Achaia. Last week, the Directorate General for Environment to the Ministry of Environment, Energy and Climate Change gave a positive assessment of the prior fulfilment of the environmental requirements of the project which is being implemented in Aigialeia. The next step is commissioning a study on the environmental impact, the approval of which will result in the issuance of a building permit.

Golf, tennis, swimming pools and villas

The budget of the project amounts to hundreds of millions of euro and is part of 6 regions for tourism development, announced by Tourism Minister Olga Kefaloyani last October. The complex, which can accommodate up to 600 tourists, is located in Rodia, Aigialeia, 500 metres from the shore of the Corinthian Gulf, and occupies 714.2 acres.

Indicative of the opulence that will embrace the new investment is the fact that, according to the preliminary design, the complex will consist of an 18-hole golf course occupying an area of 550 acres, a 5-star hotel with 240 beds, a restaurant, entertainment venues and a convention centre. Furthermore, visitors will have at their disposal 5 tennis courts, 3 basketball courts, three volleyball courts and a gym.

The second phase will add a closed swimming pool and spa centre, 360 houses with 2 to 4 bedrooms each and a pool, and two-storey maisonettes.

The complex will use water recycled from the daily amount used in the hotel, as well as from 2 boreholes. The establishment of a water desalination plant is also intended as an alternative solution.

Investors

The terrain is owned by the monastery of Megalo Spileo in the Bishopric of Kalavryta and Aigialeia, 

which, in 2009, established Simantron sea resort with 108 beds in Diakofto. Kalavryta and Aigialeia's Metropolitan has demonstrated increased activity in the field of use of real property. He has founded a company, Metohi Ltd., with President and CEO Panagiotis Kouniniotis who develops industrial activity in Western Greece, and board member businessman Vassilis Koutsis.

According to romfea.gr, the development and management of the project belongs to Fidetrust investments Ltd., based in London, with American director, of Greek origin, Nikolaos Christodoulopoulos, who is also vice president of the Hellenic Professional Yacht Owners Association and has been close friends with Amvrosios for many years.
