Greek minister of civil protection Mihalis Hrisohoidis took the responsibility to personally supervise the investigation of Konstantina Kouneva’s attack. The case will be taken by some of the best policemen. “I am not promising arrests…I don’t want to speak in advance. But I would like to publicly say that I am taking over her case personally. It is not possible for me not to give the criminals to the court,” said the minister. According to him the crime against the Bulgarian has strong responses in and outside of Greece and not finding the criminals throws a shadow over the ability of the state to deal with criminality.

Minister of Labor and social security Andreas Loverdos gave keys from an apartment in Petralona to Kouneva’s mother Elena Decheva. The family will be able to use this apartment free of charge. He said that the apartment is provided in cooperation with the Chief confederation of Greek workers and the Organization for Workers homes. Minister Loverdos also said that he has made an arrangement with minister Papakonstantinou so that the future property bill will include the solution of all eventual property problems so that Mrs. Kouneva will not have any problems in the future. The mentioned bill will allow this apartment to become property of the Bulgarian.

“What happened to K. Kouneva is something which should not happen to anyone and should be accepted as work accident. This problem is solved by the quoted bill, which will soon be voted for in the Greek parliament,” added minister Loverdos.

Almost one year after she was attacked and splashed with acid Konstantina Kouneva is still in Evangelisom hospital. After the cruel attack the woman was left with severe facial, throat and esophagus burns. Since December 23 of last year Kouneva has had eight surgeries, as a result of which her vision today is partially restored, she can eat and even speak.

During June of this year the case against her attackers was sent to the archives. This act provoked strong reactions from PASOK and SIRIZA, which called for continuation of the investigation and capturing the criminals. New protest demonstrations also started in her defense.
