Shame and disgust are the sentiments provoked by military doctors from the Coast Guard who subjected to shameful indignities women applying for the legal department of the Coast Guard.
The complaint, sent to zougla.gr website by a participant with initials F. M., refers to the way in which the competition was held recently for the appointment of officers from Coast Guard - in Law (Men and Women) - 2011
In this case, the "gentlemen" physicians of the committee forced participants in the competition to undergo a series of unacceptable humiliations, and 15 women survived the shameful ordeal.
Shameful contest
A total of 34 successful candidates were called by telephone on November 9 to undergo various measurements (height, weight, etc.) and psychological tests, and the following day they were supposed to undergo some medical tests.
After the participants had been subjected to microbiological, eye, ENT and dental examinations, one female officer from the Coast Guard took the 15 women into a room before a committee, consisting of 10 doctors of different specialties, among whom there was only one woman.
The unsuspecting candidates entered the room and stood shyly in front of the wooden podium. Their sufferings were only just beginning.
Clear extortion
The "gentlemen," asked the candidates to get in line and strip down to their underwear. When they did not agree the doctors responded that this procedure was mandatory and whoever did not obey would be rejected immediately.
It is noted that in the beginning the sole female doctor reported everything she had to, and having fulfilled her task left the room.
After that the doctors asked the girls to run and jump on one foot while still half naked.
The question asked by one of the candidates, "Why can’t we put our clothes back on?" was not answered.
While they were still naked to the waist, they were asked to raise their arms and shout their names and surnames, where they had graduated and the phrase "Hurrying is golden!"
But this was not all. They were forced to turn their backs to the committee and still naked to the waist they had to do pushups. And the most humiliating thing was that one doctor was walking around them shouting: "Lower, girls!"
The answer of the Coast Guard
In a telephone conversation with the commander of the Coast Guard George Ikonomou, he stated that the complaint was filed not long ago and an investigation would be carried out to determine how accurate the information is.
When asked whether there were online complaints filed by other participants in the contest, he said that he had no information.
However, repeated attempts of zougla.gr to contact the Minister for protecting citizens Christos Papoutsis, have proved fruitless.
We ask ourselves: Are these the kind of current methods used for conducting competitions in the security forces? Many people know what's going on, but remain silent.
