Mountainous Arcadia: a nice meal in the shade of Menalos

Vitina, Stemnitsa, Dimitsana, Karitena, as well as Kastanitsa, Alonistena and Langadia - some of these are tourist destinations and others are quiet villages at the foot of Menalos which are an ideal destination for a three-day trip. Stroll among the picturesque stone houses of Vitina, visit Libovisi, the birthplace of the Kolokotronis family, or go to the stronghold of Karitena, have some appetizers at the local taverns and have a rest while drinking coffee and enjoying a local cake in the cafes while admiring the green landscape.
You can enjoy various trips and do things other than attending carnivals in the villages of mountainous Arcadia – for example, horse riding, cycling, rafting, etc.

Nafplio: sea breeze in the first capital of Greece
The first capital of liberated Greece is very beautiful, with many attractions. It is located near Athens. Here, you can stroll along Trion Navarhon Square and enjoy the beautiful city hall or take a walk around Akronafplia and Palamidi in order to enjoy the beautiful view over the city and fertile Argolis.
You must see Bourdzi on the island of Aghion Theodoron, which can be reached by boat.
In Nafplio you will enjoy good food in dozens of elegant restaurants and taverns. A few kilometres from the town, you can find fishing villages which have become tourist resorts such as Tolo, Vivari, Porto Heli and Ermioni. From Nafplio you can also easily get to all the archaeological sites in Argolis, take a walk in the forest or enjoy hikes along coastal routes.
Hydra: relax away from the noise of cars
Spend a long weekend on the island of Hydra, "the lord" of the Argo-Saronic Gulf. Enjoy fresh fish dishes and stroll the picturesque streets of the island, away from the car horns. The only means of transportation on Hydra includes donkeys, boats and your own feet.
The beautiful city on the island is built amphitheatrically to the North, and on both sides of the entrance to the harbour you can see the bastions with cannons which defended the city in the past.
Hydra can be reached by boat from the port of Piraeus in 1.5 hours or by car in about 2 hours and 45 minutes. From the Athens-Corinth highway, turn left at Epidaurus and follow the signs for Galata. More information can be found on www.hydra.com.gr/transport.
Halkida: the city with... mad waters
Halkida is the gateway to the island of Evia and is ideal for entertainment, snacks, or walks along the coast with mad waters and near the castle.
It does not take long to get to Halkida, it is only 1 hour away from Athens, and the city will meet all expectations. Under the old bridge you can see the tide change every 6 hours from the southern part of the bay to the north and vice versa. If you want to enjoy the view from on high, go to the castle with its café offering a view over the entire city.
Halkida and the area around it are known for their good food and fresh seafood dishes.
