The night when Greece was on the brink of disaster

As indicated by the publication, Merkel, with tears of anger in her eyes, lost her temper because, under pressure from Sarkozy and Obama, Germany had to "come forward" and protect the eurozone by issuing the so-called SDRs.

Merkel however knew very well that the Bundesbank was against such a development.

According to witnesses, Merkel said through tears that she could not agree on such an issue without the support of the central bank of her country.

Retort on the part of PASOK headquarters: the participants in the developments will one day speak up

PASOK retorted on the publication in the Financial Times, stressing that the comments written about the summit in Cannes exceed those about the real battle in Cannes (in 216 BC).

PASOK headquarters note that, at some point, the participants in that meeting will tell, in the first person, what actually happened. The socialists also add that, after the meeting in Cannes, Papandreou's government won a vote of confidence and, on its own initiative, it proceeded to establish broad cooperation with the government of Lucas Papademos, which in turn applied, by 9 March 2012, the agreements and decisions of the European meeting of 26-27 October 2011. Finally, they add that "due to these circumstances, the sacrifices and the democratic choice of the Greek people, the country has already made a turn to finally emerge from the crisis and memoranda, thus becoming again a full member of the eurozone."
