The cinema, dance, theatre and art in Greece found their new home in the building of the  “Mihalis Kakoyannis” Foundation which opened doors officially for the residents and visitors of Athens. In the new modern building of the cultural center on No. 206 Piraeus street the visitors could view various theatrical performance3s and movies of old and new directors as well as to get acquainted with the art work of young Greek artists. The main purpose of the organization is to support the young talents from various areas of the art. In the building of the foundation will be held not only exhibitions and theatrical plays, but also educational programs, work meetings and seminars. The doors of the center are widely opened for everybody who wishes to meet closely and touch the seven muses of the Greek modern art.

For the official opening of the new foundation, the sponsors have chosen as a subject the life and art work of their patron – the great Greek director Mihalis Kakoyannis. Honored guests at the opening are the Presidents of Greece and Cyprus, Karlos Papulias and Dimitris Christofias. By the middle of March the visitors could get acquainted with the personality and partially the art work of Mihalis Kakoyannis through the documentary of Lidia Karras “One life, one epoch”.

The exhibition “Sinefil” in which 14 young artist present their admirations to the unforgettable characters from the movies of Kakoyannis, might also be of interest to you. “Our idea is that today there are no boundaries between the various forms of art. The exhibition of the young artists carry this spirit and using their artworks they make a type of opened dialogue with the patron of our foundation,” says a representative of the foundation for GRreporter. She explained that the power and beauty of Greece and the Hellenism are interweaved in the various works at the exhibition as an inevitable reflection of the art work of Kakoyannis.

The young artists are graduates from the Athens Academy of fine arts from the class of professor Yannis Psihopedis and through their paintings, pictures, installations, collages and many colors they give their youth point of view at the classical cinema works of the great director like “Zorbas the Greek”, “The girl in black”, “Elektr” and others.

The building of the foundation has been build specifically for the purposes of the cultural center according to the project of the architects Vasilis and Dimitris Sgutsas. The spacious lobby of the contemporary building welcomes visitors on the ground floor where the movie theater of the foundation is located with 120 seats and the amphitheatric hall with 330 seats. The next two floors are places for the presentation of various artworks while all three levels have soft daylight which enters through the glass roof. On the top floor very soon will open a stylish penthouse restaurant suitable to meet friends and family as well as business partners.
