A group of Greek students, who have gone to a British university with the cooperation of the British Council in Athens, have showed symptoms of swine flu. The illness is determined and the British medical authorities are taking care of the students. The children will return to Greece when they are completely cured so that the disease does not spread. The symptoms of the new flu are in initial phase and there is no risk for the children’s lives. Their parents are being kept up-to-date about their condition. This summer school is being organized every year from the British Council in Athens.
Great Britain is the third most affected country in the world by swine flu, which has taken 26 lives on the island. The British medical authorities are preparing for the worst case scenario, according to which the victims of swine flu will reach 65 000. The World Health Organization is advising all travelers to Britain to keep strict personal hygiene—in other words, to always wash their hands, or if they cannot, to always carry wet towels, to have special gels, which consist of at least 60% alcohol and to avoid touching their mouth, nose or eyes, because the virus can enter the system from there as well.
Swine flu cases in Cyprus became more frequent among soldiers in the army. For the last 48 hours, 7 new swine flu cases were discovered and another 19 soldiers have suspicious symptoms. In Greece the church is bearing a lot of criticism, because it continues to give out the Holy Communion from one cup and this allows the dissemination of viruses. Thessaloniki bishop Antimos believes the opposite. According to him, the Holy Communion is given in a silver cup and the silver kills all viruses, so it is not possible to spread a virus in such a way.
