Famous actor Antonio Banderas want to play the role of Nikos Kazandzakis’ literature character Zorba the Greek. The Spanish cinema star Antonio Banderas shared his desire to feel the passion of Zorba the Greek in an interview for the Australian news agency.

Many years back we saw the great performance of Anthony Queen in this role but now Banderas wants to make a theatrical play based on Kazandzakis’ novel.

“Deep down inside I perceive myself as a theatrical actor. Zorba is a personality, which excites me. Besides, I get most of my money by playing in the theatre.” Banderas gave the interview in connection to the first film he has produced – El Camino de los Ingleses.

Regarding this he shared that the global financial crisis has considerably affected the independent movie producers. “This crisis came so suddenly. For us it is like a stab in the back,” said Banderas, who became famous first in Spain, then conquered Hollywood and now he is back to his home country.

In his interview the Spanish charmer notes that his dreams of making new films will come true very hard because “banks do not loan even a cent”… but despite the economic crisis Banderas plans to make other films as a producer.

By the way – we should be expecting to see him in the role of the surrealistic artist Salvador Dali in the movie Dali, and also in the new Woody Alan film, where he will play together with Nicole Kidman, Naomi Watts and Antony Hopkins.
