The citizens of the biggest Greek port city Pieria have less and less excuses not to work out, because they are finding out the advantages of having a former sportsman for a mayor. With the sponsorship of Gym Park, the idea of the mayor and basketball legend Panayotis Fasoulyas finally came true – Pieria has the first outdoor gym center in Greece, which has a view of the Saronic Gulf and is free. It is situated on Alexandras square, which is on the beach boulevard near to the big passenger port in Pieria. The gym offers everything you can expect – treadmills, weight machines, aerobics lessons and of course, trainers, who supervise is you exercise correctly.
“Alexandras square has always been an attractive place for young people from Pieria and the road of quite of few talents to Pieria’s club Olympiakos starts here,” says the mayor Panayotis Fasoulyas, he himself being repeated basketball champion with the white-red Olympiakos uniform. “This is why I decided that the conditions for sports can be improved here and more people can start working out,” adds he. And it is true, during the first weeks the open gym has been attracting many people and many viewers. Curious Pieria citizens go there to make sure that what they have heard about from neighbors and friends is really existing and free.
