Non-governmental organizations from Thessaloniki as well as literary men from all over Europe will be given the stage at Neapoli municipality in Thessaloniki, which deals with this-year's organization of the "Balkan Square" festival.
The performances will begin on August 31 and will include artists from Turkey, Serbia, Albania and Bulgaria. The 7-day festival will be opened by Dimitris Papadimitriou and Fotini Dara. The communal theater will host a concert of the Albanian band "Skamba", teachers and students from the Musical Conservatory of municipality of Neapoli, as well as Dilek Koch (1/9). The next day in the Public Theater of Northern Greece the play "Proesto in Village" will take place, (2/9), and on September 3 the Bulgarian ensemble "Pirin Frowers" will have a concert. On the same day, the ensemble for Byzantium Church music of the Neapoli church will also perform, as well as the Serbian "Tradicija" and Dimitris Nikoludis.
There will also be concerts of Alexandros Zaharidis- "Spider-people", "Stavento" (4/9), Pandelis Thalasinos and Melina Kana (5/9), Dimitris Basis and Iota Nenga (6/9). The same day that the "Balkan Square" festival closes, an exhibition of the Spanish artist Joan Miro will open in the Teloglio Cultural Center. This is the artist's first big exhibition in Greece and it will last until February 5, 2010. It will consist of over 400 paintings and graphics, notes, sketches and pictures of the artist, owned by the Mallorca company "Pilar I Joan Miro" or placed at the disposal of the center for the purposes of the exhibition by his heirs.
