The Greek President Karolos Papoulias and 162 officials who were on a visit to Vietnam recently, could not return to Athens in time because of an aircraft engine failure. The delegation was scheduled to depart the Vietnamese town Da Nang at 10:30 a.m. Greek time. The pilot was forcing the engines preparing to take off when an alarming light came out indicating fire in one of the four engines. The pilot aborted the maneuver and called technicians who confirmed the malfunction.
The President Karolos Papoulias and the Greek delegation fly on an Airbus plane owned by Olympic Airlines. At the moment the plane is at the Da Nang airport expecting to be fixed by the technicians. The Greek officials are in the VIP hall at the same airport waiting for another “Olympic” aircraft from Athens to take them home. All the passengers and the crew are safe.
