New sociological research by Metron Analysis confirms the disappointment tendency from the governing New Democracy and the upsurge of PASOK. According to the results precedence of the socialists has increased to 5.5% - a fact, which shows that they can succeed in making their own government.

New Democracy gathers 29% of the researched and PASOK – 34%. The third place is taken by the Left coalition, which decreased with four units in comparison with the previous research and now reaches 8.5%. Following is the Greek Communist party with 6.9%, the right LOAS with 4.9%, and the Green party of the ecologists with 2.5%. If the percentages can be represented as number of parliament members then New Democracy gets between 83 and 95 parliament seats. PASOK’s percentages represent 139-152 seats.

The sociologists explain the decrease of public trust towards New Democracy mostly with the delay of the promised reforms by the team of Kostas Karamanlis, which are due to the global economic crisis and the Vatopedi monastery scandal. Let us remind you that in the sociological research done in the beginning of September, right before the scandal, New Democracy was supported by around 27.9% of the researched and PASOK got 27.6%. After the wild development of the events connecting the name of the governing party with corruption and misuse of lands, which belong to the country, voters change their preferences.

The analyzers explain the upsurge of PASOK, which reaches 87.4%, mostly with the mobilizing of voters. During the last research it was under 70%. The number of mobilized members of New Democracy around the hypothetical ballot=boxes is around 75.6%. To the question “which government do you trust most,” 30% answered “Kostas Karamanlis’ New Democracy,” and 33.4% answered “Griogos Papandreos’ PASOK,” and 26.3% answered “neither.”

Future victory is forecasted for PASOK with 42.2% against 31.4% of New Democracy, which becomes an oppositional party.

Kostas Karamanlis (33.1%) keeps his lead with a small percentage as a best prime-minister against Giorgio Papandreo (30.1%). “Neither one of them” is the answer to 18.7% of the people.
