The condition of Konstantina Kouneva, who was splashed with acid in front of her home on December 23rd, is still serious. The woman is with severe burns in the intensive care in Evangelismos hospital (on the photo). The Greek media informed us that she is not narcotized anymore; her voice cords, larynx, and gullet are severely damaged. As grreporter.info already told you, Konstantina’s eyes are also severely damaged.

Meanwhile, Maya Decheva, a friend and colleague of Konstantina was warned by her employer not to go to work today but in the afternoon to go to the central offices of the company in Pieria. The woman is afraid that she might be fired because she publicly defended her friend in front of journalists by saying that the attack against Konstantina was personal and she was punished for her syndicate activities. Together with 40 people from the union of cleaners and house maids, Maya Decheva was standing in front of the offices of the company since early morning. A representative of Greek syndicates confederation was also present. In the early afternoon a representative of the employer came out and told Maya to go back to work.

Konstantina and Maya work in “Ecomet” company, owned by Nikita Ikonomaki, who is famous functionary of the oppositional party PASOK. “Ecomet” is one of the biggest cleaning companies in Greece. Legally there work 800 people but in reality there are more than 3000. Most of the workers are immigrants, working without contracts, signing blank forms, work 6 hours and get paid for 4 and a half. Konstantina was working under those same conditions before she was splashed with acid.

Today’s demonstration in front of the “Ecomet” offices was the third one, which was organized by Maya and Konstantina’s colleagues. Last week they organized a demonstration in front of “Evangelismos” hospital and a symbolically blocked the central administration of the electric train, which connects Athens and Pieria. As we already told you, before Konstantina was splashed with acid, she was cleaning the train station in the suburb Marousi. “Economed” has a contract for cleaning the electric train stations as well as many other public companies.
