Bulgarian Yanko Stoimenov is among the four employees of the Cyprian airline “Helios,” accused about the plane crash near to Athens on August 14th 2005. On this day, the airplane, travelling from Larnaca to Athens crashed near to the Greek capital and caused the death of 121 people. The state is charging for unintentional murder and causing death due to illogical, thoughtless and dangerous activities the following people: president of “Helios” Andreas Dracos, managing director Dimitris Pandadzis, operational manager Georgios Kikidis, and the company as a whole.
The accusation was brought in the state court in Nicosia, announced the Cyprian newspaper “Politis” and based on the Cyprian legislation this case can bring a sentence from 4 years in prison to life. In the Boeing plane crash died 115 passengers and the 6 member crew. The Greek Airplane Crash Commission presented its report in October 2006. In August 2008 the accused received the documentation and the first court case will be on February 26th 2009. According to the report, the pilot and the managers of the company have disregarded the warnings for technical failures in the plane, which led to the tragic accident.
The 47 year old Bulgarian Yanko Stoimenov works in the Cyprian airline “Helios” since its foundation in 2000. He has graduated from the military academy “Georgi Sava Rakovski” with a major in Civil Piloting and Aviation Engineer. He worked in “Balkan” airlines before he moved to Cyprus to work for “Helios.” Since last year Yanko Stoimenov is the managing director of the Nigerian airline “Arik Air,” where he is hired with an exceptional reputation, 12 900 flight hours, 10 100 out of which as a flight commander.
