The first for the year meeting between the Cyprus President Dimitris Hristofias and the leader of the Cyprian Turks Mehmed Alli Talat took place. In the direct negotiations, both agreed on how the federative government and the regions will cooperate. After the three hour meeting the UN’s envoy for Cyprus Tayé-Brook Zerihoun said that the two leaders will soon set the rules and have decided to continue the talk in order to overcome the rest of the obstacles.
On this 14th meeting, the leader of the Cyprian Turks Mehmed Alli Talat noted that they reached an important overlapping of opinions regarding the topics discussed. As the Cyprian online edition ikypros.com explains, hierarchies in rules are connected to the laws and restrictions in the different regions and with the cooperation between the federative government and the municipalities. Mr. Talat said they have also analyzed the result from the applied technical commissions.
The Cyprian Turks leader also noted that together with the President of Cyprus they prepared one common announcement in connection with the situation in the Middle East. The announcement: “Both leaders denounce the attack in Gaza and the use of force by the Israeli authorities, which led to enormous losses for innocent citizens including women and children. They turn to the international communities to use their influence in order to put a stop to the violence.”
The leaders next meeting – Dimitris Hristofias and Mehmed Alli Talat, will be held on January 12th in the presence of the UN’s advisor on the Cyprian topic Alexander Downer, who will arrive in Cyprus on Friday.
