Greek Development Minister Kostis Hatzidakis announced that Greece has natural gas reserves until the first week of February, included. The country has negotiated the import of new liquefied gas from Algeria, which will start arriving right after the experts decide it is possible. The Greek gas company DEPA has urgently bought two loads of liquefied gas, in order to cover the shortage and is ready to purchase more. Except from Algeria, Greece is receiving the valuable gas also from Turkey, which said from the very beginning it is ready to increase the daily deliveries with 700 to 800 thousand cubic meters. Right now Turkey delivers 2.5 million cubic meters of gas per day to Greece.
“There is no technical problem in satisfying Bulgaria’s plead for natural gas delivery. We understand that the situation there is very serious and that even hospitals can be left cold,” said Kostis Hatzidakis, who had an urgent meeting yesterday at the Ministry of Development about the natural gas situation.
Due to the crisis between Ukraine and Russia, the natural gas supplies to Greece were stopped yearly morning on January 6th. The country uses 8.5 million cubic meters of gas per day, which right now is supplied from Turkey and Algeria.
