The ninth day of the farmer protests in Greece looks like a mixed painting. The firm position of the agricultural development minister Sotiris Hadzigakis that the government cannot start paying off the subsidies until the farmers move out of the roads brought schism among them.
The farmers form Peloponnese decided to draw back from the blockade in Korinthos, after their representatives talked to the agricultural development minister and he agreed to include in the 620 million Euros packet, support for the viticulturists, the potato producers, and other characteristic for the peninsula products. The farmers admitted that they did not receive everything they hoped to get but they have made an improvement in comparison to before. They said that they will unblock the roads in Korinthos, and if there is traffic they will not be the ones who caused it. A small group of unsatisfied farmers remained on the roads of Korinthos and they qualified the withdrawal of the others as betrayal.
Another group of farmers, who have blocked one of the exits of Thessaloniki, withdrew from the roads yesterday at around noon. The rest of the blockades remain though. The Tembi passage, which is a key place, which connects Northern Greece with the rest of the country is still closed after the farmers argued all night on whether to stop the protest or not – they did not manage to reach a conclusion. Their meeting continues and today. The farmers from Seres, who have blocked the border station Kulata-Promahon are determined to remain on the road for a long time. Yesterday, another 40 tractors from the region arrived at the border to support the protest. The occupation of the border station Ilinden-Exohi still continues and the border station Kipi-Ipsala with Turkey opens occasionally.
