The US State Department expresses its deep concern for the increased probability of terrorist attacks against American citizens and companies in Greece in its internet website in the security section. The official warning talks about the presence of internal radical organizations, which attack Greek as well as foreign citizens and companies. “After the extirpation of the “November 17” terrorist organization, other organizations appeared, which continue the violence against Greek and foreign goals,” says also the text.

The US department reminds the attack with a anti-tank rocket against the US embassy in Athens during January of 2007 and the attack against the police patrol on January 5th 2009, where a 21 year old policemanDiamantis Madzouris was injured. The responsibility for both attacks was taken by the terrorist organization “Revolutionary Fight” but the police still cannot find the attackers themselves.

The document also reminds that strikes and demonstrations occur very often in Greece but the country is democratic and they are conducted within the law limits. This is not always the case though, says also the department of state. Evidence is given with the events from December, where a 16 year old boy Alexandros Grigoropoulos was killed and this became a reason for vandalism and destruction. The US diplomacy notes that the places where confrontations occur are the ones most visited by tourists – the Omonia and Constitution squares, the region around the Polytechnic University in Athens and the Aristotle square in Thessaloniki. Tourists are also advised to avoid those regions when demonstrations are taking place.

The US Department of State also notes prohibition of police not to enter university buildings is used by some circles to commit crimes in the regions of different universities.
