Today the farmers from Promahon have a meeting with the minister of agricultural development Sotiris Hadzigakis, who talked about the 500? million financial help package for the Greek producers in Brussels in the middle of the week. After his meeting with the agriculture and rural development commissioner Mariann Fischer Boel it became clear that on February 23rd the European Commission will send experts to Greece, who will research the conditions for the financial help and then Brussels will decide whether to approve the package or not.
Yesterday a group of farmers from the blockade in Promahon left with their tractors for Thessaloniki, in order to demonstrate in front of the “Zootehnia” exhibition, which is opening in the city. Special Forces from Seres and Thessaloniki blocked their way around the Kastanousa region on the road Seres-Kilkis and the farmers were forced to go back to Promahon. Their request, which will be discussed today with Minster Hadzigakis is to be compensated for the losses from their crops, the same way the farmers from the other regions were.
Yesterday the border station Kulata-Promahon was open on intervals after the blockade closed off the road again. With the help of the Greek traffic police, trucks and cars are redirected towards the border station Ilinden-Exohi, in Evzoni with Macedonia.
