The Rio-Antirio bridge connects Rio, which is on the Peloponnese peninsula neighboring Patra with the city across – Antirio in the central part of Greece. The bridge is 2880 meters long and is the second longest outer bridge in the world. It is 28 meters wide and has 2 lanes on each side, emergency lanes, and a passenger alley. The bridge is believed to be a architectural miracle and its creators overcame challenges such as the deep currents of the sea, the unstable sand base for the towers, the increased seismic activity and the potential tsunami threats because of it.
The Rio-Antirio bridge was built and supported by the French-Greek architecture constructional consortium.
