The soccer team Olympiakos, which is leading the Greek soccer championship lost with three to one from the French Saint-Étienne in Athens on Karaiskaki stadium for the 16-finals. After the first half, Olympiakos left for the changing rooms losing with 2:0.

The first goal was scored by Ilan in the 12th minute because of a mistake done by Domi. The second goal was done by Derni with a very nice shot, which paralyzed the Greek goalkeeper Andonis Nikopolidis. The Greek team missed their chance to score in the 38th minute with Djordjevich.

During the second half, Olympiakos started playing better. In the 55th minute Diogo sent the ball outside the field’s borders with a head shot. Nine minutes later Varo tried to kick away the ball from Pacazoglou’s feet and to move it out of the danger zone but the referee gave a penalty kick for the Greek team. The Greek captain Djordjevich successfully made it and lowered the score difference to 2:1.

Olympiakos’ players continued to pressure the French but without the needed success. The game ended with 3:1 for Saint-Étienne after a goal by Gomez in the 92th minute, who sent the ball in Nikopolidis’ net.

All hopes for Olympiakos to make it to the next level are in France.
