The US president Barack Obama will give a speech, during the traditional reception in the White House, dedicated to the national holiday in Greece on March 25th. As a host, it is expected that he will talk about the values of Greek democracy and independence, as well as about the Greek-American relations. The reception is organized every year on March 25th and invited are many representatives of the Greek-American organizations in the US, lead by the archbishop in the US Dimitrios. As a tradition, after the president’s speech, the podium is taken by the archbishop, who before the speeches had a one on one meeting with Barack Obama.

Usually to the reception are invited also members of the congress and parliament, who have Greek origin, as well as the Greek ambassador in Washington. Like previous years, it is possible that representatives from the Greek government and parliament will also attend the reception, so they can get a chance to meet the 44 year old US president. The Greek media even mentions Kostas Karamanlis, who might appear that day in the White House and this way he will have his first unofficial meeting with Barack Obama, before the president visits Ankara in the beginning of April.

During the same evening, the Federation of Greek Organizations in New York will give a dinner in Manhattan for the sponsors and organizers of the traditional Greek parade, which takes place every year on 5th Avenue. This year the parade will be on March 26th, in order not to coincide with the catholic and orthodox Easter.
