International Football Federation, FIFA started an official investigation against Greece after some complaints that the fans of the national team were trying to distract the Israeli goalkeeper Aouate with lasers during the qualifications for the World Cup, which was played last week. The Federation is receiving such a complaint for a second time – similar was the case during the qualification round with Switzerland, where Greece lost with 2:1.
According to witnesses, the Greek fans were trying to distract the Israeli goalkeeper with infrared lasers, when Samaras was preparing to do the penalty-kick, which led to the victory of the Greeks.
Such accusations also came out after the game against Switzerland but this time during a penalty-kick done by Frei against Greece. Frei managed to score, there were no complaints from the Swiss Football Union and FIFA decided to ignore it. Now, after the second complaint, FIFA announced that it will start an official investigation. If the Federation confirms that Greece is at fault, the possible penalties are fines, withdrawal of points, or a closed door game for the next hosting games of the national team.
