I was officially confirmed that the leader of the Cyprian Turks Mehmed Ali Talat will visit the State Department on April 15th. As grreporter.info already wrote, Hillary Clinton had invited Talat to Washington at the end of March but after the Greek lobby launched an offensive, the meeting was postponed with two weeks. The offensive was joined also by the archbishop of America Dimitrios, who visited the US Secretary of State and asked her to cancel or at least postpone the meetings.
The Greek Americans wrote an open letter to President Barack Obama and Vice-president Joe Biden and finally the US administration agreed to postpone the meeting with two weeks. This gave the opportunity to the Cyprian President Dimitris Hristofias to meet Obama first on the high level meeting in Prague. The Foreign Minister Markos Kiprianou also got a chance to meet and speak to Hillary Clinton.
After all the US Secretary of State kept the promise, which she gave to the Turkish Prime Minister Redjep Taip Erdogan and invited Talat to Washington before the elections in North Cyprus, which will take place on April 19th. This meeting was confirmed also by Barack Obama during his visit in Ankara. It is believed that the meeting with Talat in the State Department is a sign for a strong American support for the North Cyprian leader in a very key moment.
As a consolidation for the Cyprian Greeks came the invitation of Kiprianou to visit the State Department few days later, on April 20th.
