The US Department of State distributed its annual terrorism report for 2008. The report warns Greece to be extremely careful with the illegal emigrants, because among them there can be terrorists, who are trying to enter the territory of the EU. “Greece protrudes more and more as an entrance point for illegal emigrants from the Middle East and South Asia to Europe and the US. The number of those people has increased dramatically. In 2008, 100 000 people were captured in the Aegean Sea,” writes the document.

The Diplomatic Department noted the active participation of Greece in the CSI programs Container Security Initiative and ISAF – the security support international forces in Afghanistan. The US criticized Greece that it had allowed a member of the terrorist organization “November 17^th”, who is in prison right now, to make public announcements. This is Dimitris Koufodinas, who through the Greek media sent a message for the “immediate reaction against the capitalist system.” The report also notes the increased terrorist activity during December and January, when terrorists shot at a Special Forces bus and a powerful bomb was dismantled in the parking lot of the American bank City Bank.
