Many Greeks – businessmen and ship owners, who work in Britain, are among the 1000 most affected people from the crisis. This year debut made the Levendi family, the son of Stavros Nyarhos – Filippos, and the 58 year old Yoanis Handris.
The wealth of 1000 multimillionaires, who are developing their businesses in England, was calculated to be ?286.7 billion in 2007 and since then, it had decreased with ?172 billion.
On 47th place in the list, which was published in Sunday Times, is the Levendi family, who are owners of ships but also are big industrialists. Their possessions account for ?1.66 billion.
A little bit lower in the list is the 52 year old Mihalis Lemos, son of the famous ship owner Konstantinos. He jumped from 62nd to 57th place and his possessions account for ?1.22 billion.
Another heir of a rich ship owners’ family in the list is the 54 year old Filippos Nyarhos, who takes the 89th place. He is the first born son of Stavros Nyarhos, who took the biggest share of the inheritance, which has now increased to about ?943.5 million.
The 41 year old owner of easyJet, Stelios Hadziyoanou was on 49th place and now is on 94th. The company brought him the biggest part of his possessions, which accounts for ?901.3 million. In 2008, his wealth reached ?1.43 billion but it is believed that his losses came from the fall of his company’s stocks. He developed the EasyGroup company and his business model is admired by businessmen and economists worldwide.
The Greek “five” ends with Christos Lazaris – 61 year old Greek Cypriot, who managed to gain his wealth of ?813.6 million almost from nothing, by “playing” on the stock market.
Ship owner Yoanis Handris is on 138th place with possessions accounted for ?666 million, which was gained by developing many different trade activities, as well as having a hotel business. The 79 year old Yoanis Goulandris is on 270th place with wealth of ?333 million.
