A month before the elections for the European Parliament, a useful guide-book was released on the Greek market to help untangle the quiz of “The European Union and its bodies”.
The title of the booklet is “Euro-elections 2009” and it was written by the international relations specialist Eleni Stambogli and the journalist Dionisis Stamboglis.
“Euro-elections 2009” is an easy-reader, consisting of 90 pages only, which gives answer to all questions an EU citizen might have.
For instance, what is the structure and function of the European Parliament? In what way do the actions and decisions taken by the Members of the European Parliament influence the life of Europe’s citizens? What do the terms used repeatedly by the analyzers and the mass-media mean?
Of a huge interest is the part dedicated entirely to the relationships between EU and Turkey.
Eleni Stambogli is a member of the Euronem network, and the guide-book aims to inform the citizens, mostly the young ones, on the elections that will take place on June 7, 2009. In the Euronem network it is believed that the low participation in the European elections may be increased only if appropriate informing takes place. In the prologue of the book Eleni Stambogli says: “At the European elections we do not necessarily vote for a party, as we do at the National Assembly elections, but for the political power we believe will undertake the most adequate actions in order to protect the national interests, as well as those of all European citizens within united Europe.”
