The long awaited Depeche Mode concert in Athens turned into a big disappointment. Over 30 000 fans of one of the most successful British bands gathered at Terra Vibe stadium in Malakasa, hours before the beginning of the concert, which was scheduled for 09:00pm. The ticket prices for Depeche Mode reached ?100 and despite this the stadium was full. Instead of the famous musicians at 09:30pm on stage came up their manager, who announced that the concert is postponed, because the leader of the band David Gahan did not feel good and had to be taken to a hospital.

David Gahan had to be hospitalized in the private hospital “Metropolitan,” where at 11:00pm he had some tests done and the doctors diagnosed him with gastroenteritis. Today, the vocalists will undergo more tests. The company, which organized the concert, Didi Music, said that around noon today they will give an official statement, which will say whether the concert will be cancelled or it will take place tonight. Also later on, it will become clear how the tickets will be refunded in case of a cancelled concert. Tomorrow, May 14th Depeche Mode has a scheduled concert in Turkey.

After the manager’s announcement that the concert is postponed there was a significant tension in Terra Vibe, because disappointed Depeche Mode fans started throwing water bottles and other objects on stage. Though, that scene could not have been compared to the chaos on the Athens-Thessaloniki highway when all cars left for Athens. The organizers had not thought about providing traffic police, so there is at least some traffic order. As a result, drivers and their passengers spent hours in traffic.
