The Greek Health Ministry undertook new measures for protecting the country from dissemination of swine flu, because scientists are expecting the infection to spread all around the world.

In case the flu comes to Greece after fall, the government has ordered new vaccinations. The Health Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos announced that this way, the total vaccinations supply will reach 20% of the total population of the country. The amount of the new orders reached ?5 million but as Mr. Avramopoulos stressed “the last thing we care about is how much it costs.” He also noted that the ministry is extremely careful not to succumb to commercial “pressure.”

Thermal cameras will be installed on nine additional airports around the country and this way the total number of airports equipped with the cameras, which can detect the high temperature of the passengers will be nineteen. The new cameras will be installed tomorrow, in order to control visitors and tourists during the summer season.

Minister Avramopoulos noted that Greece is among the countries, which are lucky enough not to have the swine flu until now. The Ministry announced that this year, the normal flu vaccine will be distributed earlier, so that people can be protected from the regular flu as well. When it comes to the mutation of the swine flu virus, there is no new information but scientists worldwide are trying to create an effective vaccine, which will protect and cure the virus.

The Greek Health Minister warned all citizens not to purchase the fake drugs Tamiflu and Relenza, which are sold online, because they can be harmful for the health. He reminded that such drugs can only be found in hospitals and given with a special prescription. Their uncontrolled use can affect the body in a way that it will not be able to resist the flu at all.
