The black files of the Greek bank information systems organization “Tiresias” reported a new wave of checks with no coverage for April. Only for a month, 27 740 checks to the total value of 271, 46m euro were detected in the market. This is the largest amount ever recorded for 2009 and one of the largest in the “Black files” history.
The four-month period data are shocking: from January to April the no-coverage checks issued are to the cumulative value of 984m euro. Compared to last year, when in April the amount for the four-month period was 322, 33m euro, this year it climbed up with 205,59%. An interesting fact is that last year’s value of the no-coverage checks was 1, 2bil euro.
In addition, the pace of the country’s economic development has dropped down by 0, 3%, the lowest level for the past 15 years. Also, compared to 2008’s fourth trimester, the GDP has declined with 1, 2%. A reason for the slowing down of the rhythm of economic development is the decline in exports and investment.
To avoid additional losses in the state treasury, the chief secretary of the Ministry of Economics, Thanasis Skordas, confirmed the information that groups of fiscal agents and road police will stop luxurious cars in the streets and perform check-ups.
The experts will demand from the driver to show the registration document and their taxation number. Afterwards, they will contact the central office through internet and estimate if the incomes declared by the owner can justify for the purchase and maintenance of the expensive car.
The document will then be sent to the taxation authorities where the tax-payer will be further investigated and the appropriate tax or fine will be imposed.
Besides the owners of luxurious cars, the yacht and store owners should also watch their back because of the new 14 measures for control on tax-payers.
