The 15^th consecutive Art Athina will be opened tomorrow in a new exhibition hall. This is the indoor taekwondo court, which will host the 6 exhibitions of the 2009 Second Biennale in Athens – Heaven.

The 15^th Art Athina will open the season for all the visual art fans, because scheduled are many exhibitions around the coast. But let us advertise the first one by starting with the fact that not only Greek galleries will take part but also British, Belgian, French, Italian, German, Austrian, Swiss, Turkish, American, Dutch and Cyprian.

Just like any other year, while the exhibition Art Athina is taking place, there will also be many performances, lectures and other exhibitions, which will present or comment on the contemporary visual art.

One of the exhibitions, which take place at the same time, is “10 faces of the Greek philosophy – contemporary trends in the creation process,” which is organized in cooperation with the Photography Museum in Thessaloniki and the Photography and Image Museum in Nice. This exhibition will be presented in Greece for the first time and it will consist of 100 photographs by 10 Greek photographers.

Art Athina was founded by the Greek Gallery Association and it was organized for the first time in 1993. During all those years, the founders have been aiming to create contacts and to use the event, in order to get acquainted with actors from the art scene, who live and work in countries abroad.

This year, the organizers are starting a new cooperation program with the respective exhibitions in Rotterdam (Art Rotterdam) and Dubai (Art Dubai)/ the goal is to start the creation of a network, which will encourage a dialogue in the visual art sphere, the exchange of ideas and it will contribute for the increase of sales.

In Greece, even Art Athina is forced to define itself as a “lighthouse of culture,” and not as a factor on the art market, because any identification of the culture on the market is reprehensible by the established morale of the Greek mainstream.
